Rock you like a Hurricane

Tomorrow... I go home. Today... a hurricane.

Hannah is hitting the northeast coast. Here in Delaware it's a lot of wind and rain, not like what they have in Florida. Yes, I know that is what a hurricane is too, but it's not nearly as strong.

Hopefully when I leave work, the winds won't be too bad...

I've been working the night shift now for four days. Given that I have nothing else to do, you would think that I would be well rested. No wife or kids to bother me, yet somehow I have managed to get no more than 4-6 hours of sleep a night -er- well, a day.

After I wake up, I lay back down and try to get more sleep, but I cannot get to sleep. I think I'll be like this until I get home, and then that night I'll crash and crash hard.

I'm not doing too bad right now, but 4 - 5am will be the real test.

I've gotten used to Twittering each day, I need to remember to post on this blog.

Last week was my first week, and it went OK. I spent most of my time sitting in classes, getting ready to teach and to support a Go-Live (that's when the hospital turns on the feature they've been training about).

So Tuesday afternoon I headed back to the airport to fly out, but the plane was delayed 40 minutes. We finally boarded, and headed out to the tarmac, and then sat, waiting. The pilot came on and said that the navigation system was not responding correctly. The terminal had given him two options - head back to the terminal for maintenance, or completely shut down the airplane, wait 30 seconds, and turn everything back on. That's right, the pilot was told to just reboot the plane. So he did. We sat and waited as the turbines, electricity, and air was cycled off, then back on again. How's that for technology? The same thing that I do to fix my old computer system is what they do for that multi-million dollar piece of equipment - - the nav system doesn't run Windows XP, does it?

This week I'm working midnights. It's 3:45am, and I am fighting sleep. I've got to make it to 7am, then I have to make it to my hotel room. I may sleep the whole day today.

Well, I finshed my last assignment from my previous job, and my lovely wife has packed my stuff (except the laptop gear), and now I need to finish getting ready and get to sleep.

We need to be up at 4:30 am, so I can be at the airport to wait a couple of hours for my 7:00ish flight.

So... gotta go!
